How crypto payouts work
With a crypto payout, the firm sends your profit share to a wallet address you provide, most often in a stablecoin such as USDT or USDC that tracks the US dollar, and sometimes in coins such as Bitcoin or Ether. Each payment goes over a specific blockchain network, and the network you choose must match one your wallet or exchange supports.
Once the firm approves and sends a payout, the transfer itself usually arrives within minutes to hours, which is faster than most bank transfers. Crypto transfers cannot be reversed, so a wrong address or network can mean the funds are lost. Copy addresses carefully and double check the network before you submit a payout request.
Costs come from network fees and from converting crypto into your local currency on an exchange, where spreads and withdrawal fees vary. You still need to pass the firm's identity checks, and exchanges run their own verification. Keep records of each payout, and check local rules and tax treatment with a qualified adviser.
Frequently asked questions
Which crypto do prop firms usually pay out in?
Stablecoins such as USDT and USDC are common because their value tracks the US dollar, which reduces price swings between the payout and conversion. Some firms also offer Bitcoin or Ether. Check the coins and networks each firm supports.
Do I still need to verify my identity for crypto payouts?
Usually yes. Most prop firms complete identity checks before the first payout whatever the method, and crypto exchanges also verify users before they can convert or withdraw to a bank. Have your documents ready in advance.
What happens if I choose the wrong network?
Funds sent over a network your wallet does not support can be delayed or lost, and the firm may not be able to recover them. Confirm the network your wallet or exchange accepts before you submit the payout request.
