Futures prop firms with end-of-day drawdown

An end-of-day drawdown trails your account, but only once a day. At the daily close the firm checks your balance and, if it has made a new high, raises the maximum loss level to keep the same distance behind it. Moves during the session do not shift the limit, which makes it more forgiving than real-time trailing. It is common on futures programs.

How an end-of-day drawdown works

At the start of each day the maximum loss level sits a set distance below your highest end-of-day balance so far. During the session that level stays still, even if open profit runs up and then falls back. At the close, a new high balance lifts the level, while a losing day leaves it where it was.

The level is fixed during the day, but your equity is still checked against it in real time, so a large intraday loss can breach the account before the close. On many programs the trailing stops once the level reaches the starting balance or a set amount above it, after which it behaves like a static limit.

Compared with intraday trailing, an end-of-day model lets you hold winners through pullbacks without the limit chasing your unrealised gains. Compared with static, it still locks in part of each profitable day, which can catch traders who give back profit over several sessions. Before buying, check when the firm's day ends, whether it uses balance or equity, and where the trailing stops.

Frequently asked questions

When does the end-of-day level update?

At the firm's daily cutoff, which is often tied to the futures session close or a set server time for forex and crypto. Check the exact time, since a position held across the cutoff may be valued at that moment.

Can I lose an end-of-day account during the day?

Yes. The limit only moves at the end of the day, but it applies at all times. If your equity drops below the current level at any point in the session, the account breaches.

Does the end-of-day drawdown stop trailing?

On many programs it stops once the loss level reaches the starting balance or a set point near it, after which the level stays fixed. Some programs keep trailing, so read where the lock point is before you buy.
