How PayPal payouts work

PayPal is an online payments service that holds a balance linked to your email address. A firm sends your payout to the PayPal email you register, and the money appears in your PayPal balance, from where you can withdraw it to a linked bank account or card.

Payments often appear in your balance soon after the firm sends them, while withdrawals to a bank can take a few business days. PayPal may hold or review payments, especially on newer accounts or when activity looks unusual, which can delay access to your funds.

Fees can apply for receiving payments, for cross-border transfers and for converting currency, and PayPal's conversion rate usually includes a margin. You need a verified account in your own name, and PayPal's acceptable use rules apply. Check the current fees for your country and compare them with the other methods the firm offers.

Frequently asked questions

Is PayPal available for payouts in every country?

No. PayPal's services differ by country, and in some countries accounts can send but not receive payments, or have limits on withdrawals. Check that your PayPal account can receive payments where you live before choosing it.

Can I reduce PayPal currency conversion costs?

Sometimes. Holding the balance in the currency received, or withdrawing to a bank account in that currency, can reduce conversion charges, depending on what PayPal supports in your country. Compare the rate shown with your bank's rate.

Does my PayPal account need to be verified?

Yes. PayPal requires verification to receive and withdraw larger amounts, and the firm will usually check that the PayPal account is in the same name as your verified trader profile.
