The $50,000 account is one of the most widely offered sizes across forex, futures and crypto firms, which makes it a useful size for comparing programs side by side. The fee is moderate, and the loss allowance is large enough for most day trading and swing strategies. The programs listed here offer a $50,000 starting balance.

Comparing $50,000 prop accounts

Because most firms sell a $50,000 account, this is the size where differences between programs show most clearly. Two accounts with the same balance can have very different targets, loss limits, drawdown types and payout schedules, so the balance alone tells you little about how hard the account is to trade or how soon you can withdraw.

In futures, $50,000 is a standard size with a dollar drawdown and a contract cap, often allowing a few full-size contracts or a larger number of micros. In forex and crypto, the dollar loss limits give room to run several positions at once at moderate risk per trade.

Before buying, compare the full rule set rather than the fee alone: drawdown type, daily loss, consistency rules, minimum trading days and the date of the first payout. Check whether the fee is refundable and how the cost compares with two smaller accounts or one larger one.

Frequently asked questions

Why is $50,000 such a common account size?

It balances a moderate fee with a loss allowance that supports normal trading, and payouts at this size can be meaningful. Firms often use it as their headline size, so it is also the easiest balance to compare across firms.

How many futures contracts can I trade on a $50,000 account?

Each firm sets its own contract limit for this size, and some count micro contracts as a fraction of a full contract. Check the limit for each matching futures program in its account details.

Is a $50,000 account harder to pass than a smaller one?

Usually not in percentage terms, since targets and loss limits tend to use the same percentages across sizes. The difference is in dollars: larger numbers can change how comfortable you feel with the risk, which is worth thinking about before you size up.
